United Way Campaign Chair Gearing Up For A Successful Campaign

Jay Quakenbush to chair 2007 United Way Campaign

Born and raised in Fairbanks Alaska Jay graduated from West Lathrop High School in 1976. As a youngster he attended Hunter Elementary School, Main Junior High and Ryan Middle School. A former member of the University of Alaska Fairbanks men’s basketball team, Jay spent two years at UAF studying Business Administration.

In 1983, Jay was accepted into the IBEW/NECA electrical apprenticeship program graduating four years later as a Journeyman Electrician and has worked on jobs from Valdez to Barrow. In 1991 he was hired by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1547 as a Business Representative and currently holds the position of Assistant Business Manager of Local 1547 in Fairbanks overseeing 4800 members.

An avid community volunteer Jay serves as President of the Fairbanks Building and Construction Trades Council and Treasurer of the Fairbanks Central Labor Council. He has served on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Planning Commission, Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly and was a served on the Fairbanks Neighborhood Housing Board for 10 years. Jay is currently serving his 14th year as Board Member of the United Way of the Tanana Valley.

A die hard sourdough, Jay has spent only two winters away from Fairbanks when he attended Canada Junior College in Redwood City California while chasing a baseball career. Jay is an avid outdoorsmen enjoying, hunting, fishing, shotgun shooting, golf, and his dogs. Married to Loriann; he has one son and two step daughters.
